‘Finally, I had run out of oil...’ Ambroise Paré and the birth of modern trauma surgery

Ambroise Paré is the perfect example of a self made man. Paré and the statement ‘I dressed his wound and God healed him’ will always be synonymous. It was on the battlefield that Paré advanced his knowledge of surgery and in the process he was to become a pioneer in the field of trauma.
