Department of General Surgery, Queens Medical Centre, Nottingham, UK Pancreatic trauma is relatively uncommon and although the surgical management is in many cases comparatively simple, occasionally complex technical surgery is required. Early diagnosis is paramount, although this remains difficult. The challenge of pancreatic trauma is compounded by a high incidence of associated injuries to adjoining organs and major vascular structures that may require damage control surgery and delayed definitive repair and add to the high frequency of postoperative complications, morbidity and mortality.
